Students gathered at Newman on Wednesday night to celebrate Advent and prepare for Christmas as a community. Since classes end before Christmas and students return home to celebrate Christmas with their families, they take one night to celebrate Christmas together as a Newman family. This event provides an opportunity for students to embrace the joy of the season together through prayer, song, and fellowship all centered on this year’s theme of Love. Discussions, prayers and songs highlighted the love of Mary and Joseph in accepting God’s call, the love poured out from Jesus and God’s great love throughout the Advent story.
Students enjoyed the time to reflect and prepare for the greatest joy of Christmas with the program mixing song and prayer. After the prayer service students shared cookies, snacks and coffee providing an opportunity to celebrate the season in fellowship with one another in the Newman Community before they leave for winter break. This was a wonderful way to gather as a community for the coming season of Christmas and celebrate the great gift of the vibrant community of faith at Virginia Tech.
