“Every man shall give as he is able, according to the blessing of the Lord your God which He has given you.” ~ Deuteronomy 16:17
Why Give?
Of the 31,000 students here at Virginia Tech, it is estimated that 7,000 are Catholic. Through Masses, small group Bible studies, and a variety of other programs, the Newman Community reaches about 900 to 1,000 of these students each year. While it is our hope to be able to provide ministry to all Catholic Hokies, funding is required and essential to grow a campus ministry that meets the challenge of forming influencing our students. It is important for the Catholic Church to continue to have a vibrant presence among this community and to expand our efforts to bring more students to know the love of Jesus.
Unlike a parish community, which can rely on the Sunday collection to fund most of its needs, the Newman Community must rely on a broader community of support, including parents, alumni, and friends of the community to fund the needs of this ministry.
We cannot do this alone; we need your help. You provide the financial support to the Newman Community that allows us to create an environment which supports, challenges, and inspires students to grow in faith as they live out their call to be disciples of Christ as Catholic adults. Unlike a regular parish that is funded primarily by weekly basket collections, Newman relies on parents, alumni, staff, and neighbors to support its programs and structure. By giving to Newman, you are playing a direct role in nurturing both the faith of young adults at Virginia Tech and the future of the Catholic Church.
In an effort to facilitate ease of donations, the Newman Community has partnered with Faith Direct. Faith Direct uses a secure system which allows you to easily set up monthly gifts or a one-time donation to the Catholic Campus Ministry at Virginia Tech.
Living Faith Society
Those who decide to donate our ministry on a monthly recurring basis are members of our Living Faith Society. This new initiative is one of the most significant ways you can support the future leaders of the Catholic Church during the most formative years in their adult lives. All members of our Living Faith Society receive quarterly Living Faith devotionals filled with daily prayers and meditations.
